Another busy week of preparations have taken place at the Hub, including, supporting our business tenants to move to temporary or new spaces within the Hub, and tree and shrub planting outside the front view of the building.
In total, Street Scene and Council staff planted 13 trees and 730 shrubs and we’re sure you’ll agree how much the landscaping has improved the front view of the site!

A new NHS 111 digital kiosk went live
A new NHS 111 digital kiosk went live as planned at County Hospital Stafford on Thursday 09 September. Since its launch we have been collecting patient experience feedback to establish any areas of development and its success has underpinned the decision to launch the next digital kiosk at Royal Stoke Hospital.
The kiosk system is similar to the 111 triage available via 111 online and by phone and the aim is that once someone has used the 111 self-assessment tool in the Emergency Department, with support from a Care Navigator, they will be confident using the service at home, potentially reducing future visits to the ED. People who have been referred to the Emergency Department by their GP or another care service will not have to complete the full 111 assessment at the digital kiosk and will be directed straight to the ED reception. Patients who have been brought in by ambulance and who have a life-threatening emergency will of course not need to use the kiosk.
It is still early days for these kiosks as part of the wider 111 Programme, but over the coming weeks we will be listening to people’s views about how the kiosks are working within our pilot sites and are helping to signpost people to the right place for their needs.
Importantly, we recognise that there are some groups that will need additional support, such as those with language and cultural barriers or those who may struggle to use a digital screen. There will be staff in the department actively looking for these needs or urgent conditions. We will be using the insight and data obtained through our feedback and ongoing involvement work to understand any positive and negative impact.
Covid Update
The rate of COVID-19 cases in Staffordshire have increased dramatically and are the highest in the Midlands. Cases are highest in the younger age group so it is very important to encourage young people to get vaccinated and parents of the 12 to 15 year old groups to give consent to have their children vaccinated.
Key points from Together We’re Better are:
COVID-19 and flu vaccinations got underway for 12-15s at Staffordshire schools on Monday with more than 200 students vaccinated on the first day.
Pop-up COVID-19 vaccination clinics also started at colleges this week, with enrolled students able to get their first and second jabs on site at Newcastle, Stafford, South Staffordshire and Burton & South Staffordshire campuses.
