Expression of interest – Girls football for the LSWA community
Like many of us I have been inspired by the success of the England Lionesses in the Euro’s and listened to Alex Scott passionate advocacy of Women’s football. I would like to see if we can set up girls’ football within our community on a very modest grass roots scale. Six girls will allow us to start skills sessions, five gives us a five a side team and ten a game. In speaking to people around the village I have been asked ‘is there enough interest to get this going?’ I don’t know, but I wear my heart on my sleeve and I want to try – I prefer ‘if we build it they will come’ from Kevin Costner’s ‘Field of Dreams’. Every one of those England team members started football around the age of five and overcame endless problems to get where they are today. The next generation of girls deserves better and merely cheering occasionally from the sidelines will not be enough to nurture and develop girl’s football. I would like to try and if you share my views, please contact me – I have started the ball rolling by emailing Staffordshire FA so hopefully by the time you read this there will be some answer from them and a list of things we need to do, health and safety, child protection, insurance. I say this now because I don’t underestimate the task before us but nothing ever grew by being measured – time to water and nurture I say.
